Sweet baby Dakota Cascagnette stopped breathing for two minutes. The little girl with a head of wispy, blonde hair had just suffered a seizure and started turning blue. Her mom, Jenn Cascagnette, felt helpless.“There were so many nurses and doctors around her I couldn’t get to her,” she recalled.Dakota, who was then just two weeks old, survived the ordeal, but had to stay at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children for a month.“It was very scary. A couple babies around us didn’t make it out of the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit),” Cascagnette said.Dakota is now  over a year old.

Cascagnette initially took her to the hospital after her arm and leg began twitching – later confirmed as seizures – and she stopped eating.

After months of tests, she was diagnosed with encephalitis, a rare brain inflammation that had been caused by a virus. At first, doctors believed she would only have some developmental delay, but an MRI in April showed the virus had destroyed 80 per cent of her brain function.

“She will likely never walk or talk or learn. That was the initial heartbreaker,” said Cascagnette. “I’ve come to terms that I can’t cry forever. I work every day with her – she’s very happy; she tries very hard.”

Dakota will need wheelchairs, leg and body braces, and other items to help her move around, along with a wheelchair-accessible van for her parents to drive. She also regularly sees a nurse, early interventionist, and physical and occupational therapists, and Cascagnette has been in touch with CNIB regarding her daughter’s vision issues.

With the expenses already adding up, Cascagnette’s cousin Amanda Slingerland started a fundraising campaign with a $20,000 goal on behalf of the family.

Cascagnette and her husband, Steve Kadieux, recently moved from Barrie to Markham to be closer to SickKids hospital for Dakota’s daily appointments. They live with Kadieux’s family.

We will be Auctioning a very special item to help Dakota in her battle with encephalitis and help raise funds for a Van that her family will need to carry Dakota’s Wheelchair . Your donations will help with the Physiotherapy that she will also need.

PINK SLIPS WOMENS CAR CLUB AND MEADOWVALE TOWN CENTRE CAR SHOW , IN SUPPORT OF SAMANTHA SIRBOS , AUG 04TH, 11:00 AM TO 4:00 PM. PLEASE VISIT OUR EVENTS PAGE FOR DETAILS.

We are pleased to have made a donation of $1300.00  to Samantha and her family to help with her struggle . Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

This is Samantha Sirbos and she is 7 years old. Samantha has endured more in her 7 years than most people will in a lifetime. She is strong and she is a fighter. When Samantha was only 3 years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia. At 5 years old, she was a cancer survivor. Unfortunately, Samantha relapsed this past September and the Leukemia has returned. For the past 4 months, Samantha has been undergoing rigorous chemotherapy treatments at Sick Kids hospital in Toronto and the Sirbos family has recently learned that she requires a bone marrow transplant.

The Sirbos family needs our help. Samantha's parents, Chris and Maria, along with Samantha's little sister Ava were devastated when they learned that the Leukemia had returned and they've been at her bedside since September. As if the diagnosis of Leukemia wasn't bad enough, Chris, Maria and Ava have recently learned that neither of them are suitable matches for a bone marrow transplant.

The Sirbos family faces a long ordeal in the upcoming year and they need support...especially financial support! Chris Sirbos, Samantha's father, is a proud Toronto Police Officer and has only worked a few days in the last 4 months. Chris is the sole income earner as Maria has not worked since Samantha first faced leukemia at 3 years of age. Having a child diagnosed with cancer is an unimaginable ordeal for any family, and adding any challenges on top of it can seem overwhelming. In order to be close to Samantha, the Sirbos family has been forced to lease living space near Sick Kids Hospital which costs thousands of dollars per month. Ava, Samantha's proud little sister, started junior kindergarten in September but had to withdraw from school due to Samantha's diagnosis. Chris and Maria are evaluating other educational options for Ava which are costly. The above mentioned costs, along with the day to day incidental costs have had a significant financial impact on the Sirbos family. Please take a few moments to make a donation to the family and show Samantha that we are in this fight together.

Also, please visit www.onematch.ca or www.blood.ca to see how you can become a bone marrow match or blood donor.
ANYONE CAN BE A MATCH!

This sweet little girl will be one of our focuses for the 2013 Car Season . Let's see how we can help this little darlin'

 Lea's story

Lea was born in July of 2011 and has had a rough go of her first year of Life. Lea has been diagnosed with "Tetralogy of Fallot" which has led to Bronchial Molagia, and Pulminary Stenosis.

Lea has had about 4-5 heart operations in her 7 month stay at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. These were all very close together, and she could have passed away at any time... We thought she may have actually at one point. Its so hard to be strong, but that little Lea is a brave litttle fighter.....

She now has been home since August 2012, and has a treach and a feeding tube as she is still not able to have "human" food.  She has heart monitors, blood pressure, and other monitors all at home in case of emergencies, and suction machines as phlegm can get stuck in her treach, and they have to suck it out...

Tho her parents (S & D) are fully trained in the procedures,[ & had to be before Lea got sent home], they have to have nurses from 11pm thru to 6am-ish through the night so that Lea can be monitored in her room ( she always is being watched by someone) as her parents need their rest too.

 Sadie---This is Her Story

Sadie has a rare eye condition called cone-rod dysfunction. It sounds simple enough now, but the journey to get to where we are today wasn’t an easy road. Sadie was born completely normal and her condition was not an obvious one. Sadie has had a long road of health issues that still really have no explanation. Sadie’s eye condition causes her to be hypersensitive to sunlight, and it causes her extreme pain. Sadie spends a lot of time indoors with the blinds closed, especailly during the winter months. Her road to diagnosis is much like many patients with a rare disease. Sadie has endured so many tests that she does not know life any different.

A Thank You from Sadie and her family CCP Auction 2013

Dear Jody,

I just wanted to let you know we received the cheque save and sound. Thank you so much we have so far been able to purchase her some much needed things like shoes that will fit over her new leg braces, sun shades, some new pants that work with her leg braces. We're in the process of getting her new glasses done for school. We have a shopping day planned for her to get other things she needs. The money is set aside for her for whatever we may come up. We have a busy few days this last week with several appointments so we haven't been able to go yet. It certainly eases my mind knowing that the money is there and all these things are paid for. Thank you so much.

Sadie is doing well and I'm so proud of all she has overcome in the 3 and a half years she has been alive. Yesterday she had speech therapy for her stuttering. Her speech therapist said her language is so far beyond her speech level that she can't get things out properly. She is just so smart. Her Orthostist said her and I both are doing great with her braces so we are getting a break from that appointment for a while. Last week we went to see her Pediatrician and he was so happy with her. He said she had gone from this tiny little baby who was failure to thrive to a smart beautiful little girl who is now in the 90th percentile on the growth chart. I'm so proud of her.

She spent the day with me Friday at Cancer care and was so good.:) It's been a long road for our family but because of support from so many we have made it through.

Thank you all

Attention: Ms. Jody Brock, CEO and Founder

Pink Slips Women's Car Club
408 Curry Rd.
Midland, ON L4R 5H2

Dear Jody Brock:

On behalf of A Child's Voice Foundation I want to thank you and Pink Slips Car Club for choosing our Foundation to be the recipient of a portion of proceeds from your fundraising events this year.

A Child's Voice Foundation is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating and managing programs that tangibly support and enhance the physical and motional well being of financially disadvantaged children in Canada who are facing an illness or disability by providing them with products ad services not otherwise provided by insurance plans, levels of government or other organizations.

Caring for a child who is sick or disabled is not only emotionally challenging but can be financially devastating and it is our hope to make things a little easier for these children, their family and caregivers. Through our programs, we are able to extend a hand to those in need and help them through a difficult time. Many times, A Child's Voice Foundation is their only hope. Since we do not receive funding from the government or other granting organizations e depend on the generosity of individuals and clubs like Pink Slips to make it possible for A Child's Voice Foundation to “fill in the cracks, bridge the gaps, and open doors” when all else fails for financially sick and disadvantaged children.

Once again, I want to thank Pink Slips Car Club for helping A Child's Voice Foundation be a place  “Where Kids Come First”

Sincerely Yours,

Roslyn Yearwood             Susan Reid

Here are two letters we received from our first two Wish Kids

Pink Slips sponsors Jordan’s Wish

Jordan Heading to Disney World

Jordan is an exceptional young woman. Her mom, Troy marvels over Jordan’s strong work ethic and overall strength as a young woman. Troy credits Jordan’s "strength and faith" as the guiding force helping this family gets through the very difficult times of the past number of months.

It began in early 2010 when Jordan, 16 and her brother Craig, 15 were wrestling, in fun, as many brother and sister as close as these two will do. Jordan felt that she may have broken as rib when she experienced a sharp pain in her back, in the rib area. Reaching behind she felt a lump.

Troy, a Metro Toronto Police Officer, took Jordan to the hospital where they were told to put ice on it. As with many mothers, Troy has exceptional instincts when it comes to the health and well-being of her children. Her persistence led to her calling The Hospital for Sick Children, on her own, and a nurse on duty immediately requested that Jordan’s x-rays be faxed to the hospital.

On April 8, 2010, Jordan was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma; she had a tumour on her ninth rib. The location of the tumour was very rare. The following week Jordan had a port input, surgically. to receive the chemotherapy over the next 10 months. Troy is amazed that Jordan did not fail one class or miss one assignment during this medically difficult time.

Following the grueling chemotherapy schedule, Jordan had surgery in July 2010 to remove the tumour. She had her eighth, ninth and tenth rib removed. Her recovery has been long and painful.  Troy and her husband David, also a Police Officer, are proud of their two children and marvel at how close the siblings are. "They are like Frick and Frack. Craig is his sister’s angel. They are exceptionally close; he is very protective of her and she of him," Troy says.

The family was first informed about The Children’s Wish Foundation by a Doctor at Sick Kids Hospital. Troy said that they had many conversations, while Jordan was convalescing, about her wish.
